The importance of a place to call home has been central to Suzanne Henderson’s professional life. She studied interior design at CSUN, with a special interest in historic design of the Victorian era. She discovered West Adams in 1982 and came home. Luckily, her husband and daughter shared her enthusiasm.

Seeing the great need for preservation-oriented Realtors in West Adams, she changed careers. She was the first full-time agent to join Bob Bortfeld, who originally established City Living Realty. Today, her design background helps sellers to stage their homes for sale and buyers to see the many possibilities in the houses.

Suzanne has been deeply involved in the community; as a founding member of West Adams Heritage Association (WAHA) and the Adams-Normandie Neighborhood Association, and formerly serving on the Community Redevelopment Agency’s Adams-Normandie 4321 Project Area Committee. She is also a founding member of the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles. Suzanne currently writes the “Resources” column for the WAHA Matters newsletter, helping neighbors find reliable craftspeople and services.

She was honored to receive the Bob Bortfeld Award for Historic Preservation from WAHA in 2005. A new member was heard to comment during the reading of her nomination “Who is this woman, she must be a saint!”

Known as one of the premiere hostesses of West Adams, a party at Henderson’s Folly is not to be missed. Her home is so named because friends and family thought they were making a big mistake in buying it. Soon they were vying for invitations to visit. One of the first houses to be restored in West Adams, it has been enjoyed by many groups and tours and was included on the WAHA Holiday tour in 2007.

Suzanne is proud that most of her clients have become her friends. Her enthusiasm for the neighborhood and its houses, the warmth of her caring, and commitment to service have welcomed many to find their home in Historic West Adams.
